DCR Celebrates Juneteenth Freedom Day

June 19 - The Department of Cannabis Regulation celebrates Juneteenth, the commemoration of the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. On June 19, 1865, federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people were freed. This, however, was two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation went into effect in January, 1863. This day, the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States, has become a day for African Americans to celebrate not only their freedom, but their history, culture and achievements. The Emancipation Proclamation set all slaves free on January 1, 1863. June 19th, is now commemorated by the federal holiday known as Juneteenth.

To celebrate Juneteenth, we remain committed to providing the Social Equity community with the tools, education, seed money, and resources to build a better future through entrepreneurship and workforce development. We cannot right the wrongs of the past, but we can build a more equitable future.

Happy Pride Month from DCR

The DCR Social Equity Program celebrates June Pride Month and recognizes the dignity, contributions and continued struggles of the LGBTQIA+ community.

It’s Time for a Mid-Year Business Tuneup

As we approach the middle of 2023, it’s time to check under the hood of your business and review performance year-to-date. Hit the accelerator on improving your strengths and move quickly to adjust underperforming areas accordingly.

What’s working well? What is not working? Analyze now and stop guessing. Get some hard facts and data then make proactive business decisions and course-correct as needed.

Areas for review include actual sales vs projected sales; analyze your cash flow and financials. Do not leave this solely to your accountant. Know your numbers. Other areas include customer satisfaction; business, product and labor costs; marketing/ advertising; product sourcing; inventory management; employee recruitment and retention; employee training, and more. Include other areas and processes unique to your business model.

A thorough and objective mid-year business assessment makes for a reality check. Do it now. Review and audit the first six months and position your business for success in the second half of the year. Cannabusiness is serious business.
